Destination Zanzibar
The Spice Island
Zanzibar, also referred to as The Spice Island, is an archipelago approximately 46 kilometres off the coast of Tanzania. Its name was originally derived from the Persian language, and it was used by Arab, Persian, Indonesian, Malaysian, Indian, and Chinese merchants as a base for their voyages. Over decades, control of the island has passed between the Portuguese, Arabs, Germans, and finally the British before it gained independence. The main commercial capital, Stone Town, was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000.
Zanzibar is famous for its virgin white sand beaches and tranquillity, breadth of culture and biodiversity of animal species, dolphin and whale watching adventures, and world class diving within its flourishing marine ecosystem.
